GPT-Live-1.1 Arrives: New Voices, Plan Access, and How to Try It

GPT-Live-1.1 Brings More Natural Accents and New Voice Choices to ChatGPT. See What Changed, How Quip Differs, and Which Plans and Devices Support Live, with Current Chat Usage Allowances and the Settings to Check Before Starting Your First Conversation.

OpenAI has started rolling out GPT-Live-1.1 and its smaller companion, GPT-Live-1.1 Quip, in ChatGPT Voice. Announced on October 15, 2026, the update focuses on more natural accents and additional voice choices. As of October 16, it is an active rollout, so access should not be read as a promise that every account already has the same options. OpenAI’s release notes confirm the launch.

What Changed in GPT-Live-1.1?

OpenAI highlights more natural accents across languages, with new voice choices for French, German, Hindi, Japanese, Korean, and Mexican Spanish, plus Bubbie in English. Live also varies the short phrases it uses when searching, giving users more variety in those spoken updates.

The practical reason to try this release is the sound and feel of everyday conversation. If you regularly switch languages or prefer a voice that feels more familiar, the expanded selection gives you more options. Voice availability can still vary by account and region.

The underlying conversational design remains full-duplex: the models can listen and speak continuously, responding to pauses, interruptions, and changes of pace. This carries over from the previous generation rather than being a capability introduced for the first time in 1.1.

GPT-Live-1.1 vs. Quip: Who Gets Each Model?

The official system card identifies GPT-Live-1.1 as the successor to GPT-Live-1 and Quip as the successor to GPT-Live-1 mini. The full model is the default for Plus and higher tiers, including Codex and Dots; Quip is the default for other users.

For Chat specifically, OpenAI’s current Voice guide lists these allowances:

PlanModel / Chat Allowance
FreeQuip / limited
GoQuip / 3 hours
PlusGPT-Live-1.1 / 3 hours
Pro, $100/monthGPT-Live-1.1 / 15 hours
Pro, $200/monthGPT-Live-1.1 / unlimited, subject to abuse guardrails
Business Standard / PremiumGPT-Live-1.1 / 3 or 15 hours; extra usage billed
K-12 TeachersGPT-Live-1.1 / 3 hours
Legacy Enterprise / EduGPT-Live-1.1 / 3 hours

Chat allowances use a rolling 24-hour window. Credit-based Enterprise, Edu, and Clinicians plans use metered billing. Workspace settings apply.

Which Devices Support It, and How Do You Start?

Voice in Chat supports web, iOS, and Android. Desktop voice is available in the ChatGPT app on macOS and Windows, with separate allowances and pricing.

Choose Settings → Voice → Live, then choose Voice for the speaker. On web or mobile, select the Voice icon and allow microphone access. Options depend on plan, region, app version, workspace settings, and parental controls.

Live does not support video or screen sharing; eligible mobile subscribers can use Advanced Voice for those features.

Is It Worth Trying Now?

For existing Voice users, GPT-Live-1.1 is a useful update to explore through a familiar routine: rehearse a conversation, talk through an idea, or ask a question that needs a web search. Listen for how comfortably the voice fits your preferred language and conversational pace.

The clearest takeaway is straightforward: the rollout has begun, Quip gives Free and Go users an entry point, and higher tiers receive the full model with different usage allowances. Check the options shown in your account before choosing a plan solely for this update.
